Leads - What Are They And How Do I Get Them?

We all know that the only way you can make money with many websites (including PTC) is to get lots of referrals. Another name for referral is lead or propect. Which leads us to….

Leads - What Are They And How Do I Get Them?
If you’re on the Internet to try to earn money and possibly make a living, then you NEED leads. That is the bottom line, no if’s, and’s or but’s. BUT - it always comes down to the following: Where do you get them? Which are the best?

What about Adwords or Overture (Now Yahoo Publishers Network)? Should I pay for them? How do I get them for free? I’m going to try to answer those questions for you.

Before I go on, I need to state one thing and most experts will disagree with me here, but I have to say it. There is no such thing as a Bad Lead!! Well, except for the one that bounce back.

Ok, I can hear the screaming now. I can see the crowds with the torches ready to hunt me down and do harmful things to me :-)! But let me explain first.

True Experience:

A little over a year ago, I purchased a list of 25,000 business opportunity leads. I added them to my autoresponder and began to email them. I set it up to send twice a week, once with an informative article and the second with a free product and one of my affiliate links.

Of course, all my emails were can spam compliant, contained a disclaimer and had an unsubscribe link. Over the past 13 months the list has dwindled down to 1,700 after the unsubscribes and dead emails. BUT that’s a list of 1,700 interested prospects that I email regularly.

Leads - The Good

These are what I consider low grade leads. These are leads purchased through a Lead Company. Notice I didn’t say “bad leads”, just low grade. There are good and bad lead companies.

The bad lead companies harvest their emails addresses using software that scours the net and collects email addresses. They are not targeted to business opportunities, or anything else.

These are the types of companies you want to avoid at all cost. Even if you are spam compliant in your mailings, you’re likely to get spam complaints against you. Avoid these types of companies like the plague!

The good lead companies collect their leads from running a network of Free-For-All (FFA) and classified sites. They allow people to post free ads on their sites in order to collect their email address.

These are people that are promoting a business opportunity, so you know that they are interested in other business opportunities and products.

I use a company called Digital Ad Gear for my leads. They collect leads from their own network of FFA and classified sites. I normally pay $25 for 12,500 leads (.02 per lead). Which isn’t bad. They also offer more services such as mass mailings, guaranteed opens and lead generation. You can check them out here:

Leads - The Better

In this category I put leads received from Giveaway Sites, free Ad Programs and Co-Opt leads.

These leads are better than the first section because these have signed up through your lead capture page. Normally, you offer them a free gift to sign up. The downfall of these are that some will unsubscribe right after they get your free gift.

Leads - The Best

These are leads obtained through paid advertising on related sites and by using Google Adwords or Overture. These leads are the best that you can get. They are targeted, have responded to an ad that you placed and are interested in what you have to offer.

They signed up through your lead capture page. These are gold, but can also be the most expensive to get.

Remember, there’s no such thing as a “bad lead”. It’s all in the way you cultivate that lead once you receive it.
